A Tribute to Jason

Clonageera Irish Setters have announced the passing of Pat Rutherford’s Jason, sire of 22 Show Champions worldwide and patriarch of the beautiful present day Clonageera family.

Born in the south-west of England, Jason and his sister Trisha have been Pat and Bob Judge’s constant companions, emigrating with them to California where he continued his early British show successes to become an American Champion. Before he left England, he sired litters including Sh Ch Brabrook Red Rose and Brabrook Red Shadow ShCM.

In the United States he was sire of Sharon Pikell’s Witchbrooke litter that included four Champions, W.Pathfinder, Apollo, Cassini and Corot, and within Sherry Oke’s Kinross kennel, four Champions K Shalimar, Faberge, British Sterling, Sergeant Pepper and two Grand Champions, Kinross Burberry Brit and K Cinnabar. A mating with Estrella Mac-Erin Magic belonging to Jeanette Holmes produced CH Estrella Autumn Wind and GR CH Estrella Catch the Wind.

He fathered GR CH Thendhia Kieran and US & Can Ch Thendhia Murphy Himself with Mary Papin’s Ch Thendhia Promise Keeper JH. Fairline Rafferty, Fairline Rose and Kenerin Heartstopper also became Canadian Champions, and Laureen Strellioff also bred Jason’s son Caelen, US Ch Kenerin RockMyWorld Clonageera. In Australia he sired Ch Eirean Pure Indulgence and Ch Eirean Pure Elegance for Di Anderson and Ch Nanyima Frozen Ice with Troy Pietzner.

In 2012 Pat and Bob came back to their home in the UK, bringing Jason and Tricia, Rosie, Laila, Caelen and Jason’s grandson, Clonageera Kinross Love Barolo, Oliver, with them.

After his return to England he sired two more litters, to make seventeen in total, with Claire Prangle’s Heathclare Blin Kin Magic and Jon & Jean Lippett’s Neathamill Isabella at Clonageera. The one-year-old Heathclare setters have just started their show career with great wins in the UK, Switzerland and South Africa. Bella’s puppies will soon be six months old.

Jason was always a compelling dog, with his slashing white front, his elegant movement and his powerful personality he was the father of the Clonageera setters in manner as well as physically.

Calm, loving and confident, he will be very much missed.
