Critique - Judge: Mr Anthony Allen

This was my first time awarding CC’s in Irish and I thoroughly enjoyed my day. I had two fantastic stewards in Bill and Trish to keep me on the straight and narrow, some super dogs to judge and a lovely atmosphere around the ring. My thanks to the those who entered and took my decisions with such sportsmanship.

My Best of Breed winner was the Sh Ch Coppers War of the Roses with my BCC winner Sh Ch Forfarian Hey Sexy Lady JW both I thought were excellent examples of the breed. I was absolutely thrilled to later see my BOB winner topping the Gundog group and then returning on the final day to win RBIS what a great achievement! My best puppy was Sutteresett King of Hearts and his kennelmate was best veteran the evergreen Sh Ch Suteresett Milky Way with Scarletti JW who took fourth spot in the veteran group, many congratulations.

1st         SUTERESETT KING OF HEARTS (MRS T & MISS G GISBY)

A very promising youngster. Lovely shape and outline showing balance and style. Masculine head and expression, good through the neck which led neatly to well-placed shoulders. Good depth to forechest and adequate return of forearm, ribs springing nicely and well back to a firm loin and good croup. Stands on good legs and feet, well bodied. Movement was good in profile, needs to tighten in front but that will happen in time. In the challenge for best puppy he just had more fluidity than the puppy bitch winner so took top spot, a lovely youngster with bags of potential. Best Puppy in breed.
2nd        FORFARIAN'S HIDDEN SECRET WITH RIONORE (MS S J RANDLE)

Another smart young man who has a lovely head and expression with enough work for his age, clean though neck and shoulders and good lay back, and a decent return of upper arm. Good depth of forechest for his age and ribs well back, slightly longer through the loin than one, quarters developing nicely. Moved steadily but today not quite with the fluidity of the winner today.

Unfortunately the sun came out and it went very hot just as this class went in and it really affected a number these boys and a couple of the boys just threw the towel in which reflected in the placings.

1st          ALOLFRANA HOTTER THAN U'KNOW (MRS R D DANKS-KEMISH)

Smart dog who presents a very impressive outline on the stack. Good size and substance, a clean picture which portrayed his racy lines and elegance. Masculine head with raised brow and balance, correct amount of work for his age and low set ears. Super front assembly just need to tighten in elbow, ribs sprung and well back and firm through loin. Well developed quarters and second thigh, Really covered the ground with his open side gait which gave him the advantage in this class to win over some smart dogs.

2nd        PAWSWORD PRICELESS TO KERRYFAIR (MRS S & MISS K CHORLEY-NEWTON & CHORLEY)

I liked this dog a lot but he really wasn’t playing the game today. A nice type of youngster with a good outline and a super head and expression with plenty of work. He has a clean reach of neck, shoulder placement OK would have liked a little more front angulation. Good length of body, good through the ribs, firm in loin, well made quarters, movement was adequate but not as tidy in front as the winner when he came towards me.

2nd        ANLORY AIDAN JW (MISS J GREENAN)

This boy would just not play ball with me today, loved him on the stack and thought he would be my winner, but he just would not cooperate on the move. Masculine head of good proportions, A nice type of youngster with a good outline. He has a clean reach of neck, shoulder placement OK would have liked a little tighter in front action. Good length of body, good through the ribs, firm through the loin, well made quarters, movement was sound just rather unsettled today.

1st          WYNFILL WINNER TAKES ALL (MRS J E HOLLEY)

A nice type of youngster with a good outline and a masculine pleasing head and expression. He has a clean reach of neck, would have liked a tad more lay back in shoulder. Good length of body, good through the ribs, slightly long in loin, well-made quarters. Was much more settled in the class than in the Puppy, movement was adequate with a good profile action just needs to settle in his front movement.

2nd        OAKDENE PHENOMENAL WITH THENDARA (IMP) NAF TAF (MRS S M BYARD)

Balanced male, pleasing head piece with raised brow, which led on to a clean reach of neck and well placed shoulders. Overall body proportions OK, with depth to his chest. Good rear angulation. Not as together on the move today as the winner.

1st          SUTERESETT TOM COLLINS AT BRANSETT (MRS D, MISS J, MRS T & MISS G PARSONS & GISBY)

This young man stood fourth in junior as he just played the fool and gave his hander a hard time. In this class he just got his act together and presented the picture of balance and raciness that I was looking for. Lovely boy, masculine in head without being overdone plenty of work, flowing lines throughout and presents a balanced picture. Well angulated both fore and aft and good body properties. He just comes alive on the moves with drive and ease once he is settled, another promising young man.

Smart dog who is honest and well constructed. Masculine head, powerful and clean through the neck and shoulder, correct amount of depth throughout. Super quarters with great muscle tone. Stands on good legs and feet. Good in profile but would have liked him a little tidier in front action.

This three year old dog has a lovely shape on him, good size and balanced angels fore and aft. He impressed on the stack and on the move, nothing overdone about him at all. Head pleasing, neck clean which led in to wells set shoulders and good front assembly. Stood on well bone legs and super feet. Well made body with ribs well spring and firm loin. Quarter have good angles and stifles well bent. Best mover in the class with a super action.

2nd        GWENDARIFF JUSTIN THYME JW (MRS G HYSLOP)

A young man with a pleasing outline, he has a masculine head and expression which led on to a clean reach of neck. Would have liked a little more layback of shoulder, he has a decent return or upper arm. Good length of body with ribs well developed and a firm loin. Well-made quarters, movement was positive just a shade close behind.

1st          LANSTARA SPRING MOON (MR G & MRS D ROWBOTTOM)

Medium sized dog who you need to put your hands on to appreciate fully. I found him very well constructed. Decent head, with raised brow and kind expression, powerful and clean through the neck and shoulder, correct amount of depth throughout. Super quarters with great muscle tone. Stands on good legs and feet, moves very true with a fabulous driving action and accurate footfall and holds his outline very well.

2nd        AOIBHEANNE'S ROUGH DIAMOND WITH SHUSHANA JW (MR & MRS H A M COHEN)

Another smart dog who excelled in outline, again not a big one but very well made. Head well developed. Front assembly Ok with a decent shoulder placement. Ribs well sprung and a muscular loin. Well made hindquarters with good muscle tone. Did well on the move with a good action and lashing tail.

3rd         CASKEYS MISCHIEF OF STYLERSETTS JW (MR K & MRS LR MACAULAY)

This was a tough class with some very nice dogs in it which took some hard decisions to arrive at the final placings.

1st          GWENDARIFF THYME BOMB AT JACWILINS JW (MR W J & MRS J S WILLIS)

Impressive young dog who commands attention as he enters the ring, I judged him as a baby puppy and thought he had potential then so was thrilled to see him again as the finished article. He has a super outline built on clean lines and well balanced from his neckline to his tail set. Head masculine and of good proportion. Well-made front assembly with shoulders well placed. Good angulation throughout and well bodied. Presented superbly with coat in gleaming condition, my notes just say looks fabulous. He moved true, a shade close behind but he covers the ground with ease and that gave him the class. In the challenge he pushed the open winner very close for the ticket, I really was splitting hairs. On the final run off just didn’t quite have the drive of the winner so today had to be content with the RCC. One who I am sure will get his crown and it will be thoroughly deserved.

2nd        MILLCROFT CHASE THE MOON TO SHANOAH (MISS J & MRS S WALSH & FOSTER)

Smart dog, he has a pleasing head and expression and clean reach of neck. Not quite the front construction of the winner. Proportionate length of body, spring of rib and gently sloping top line. Excellent well-made quarters with a moderate bend of stifle and hocks well let down. He has good free flowing action on the move, just not as fluid as the winner and would have like him to use his tail a tad more.

3rd         AMBLIN'S SWEET WILLIAM (MRS P MITCHELL)

1st          SH CH COPPER'S WAR OF ROSES (IMP SWE) (MR B A & MISS A C CROCKER & SIDDLE)

Cracking head and expression on this dog, with those lovely raised brows. Super neck and shoulder placement, he has the desired return of forearm and developed forechest that I was looking for. Standing on good legs and super feet. Ribs are well sprung and back to a loin which is of the correct length and firm. Top line and tail set are spot on and this does not falter on the move. His stifles are well bent and firm in second thigh, he drove around that ring with a true action and easy and free open side gait. He won this class in very strong competition and I was later delighted to award him the DCC and Best of Breed. Later her won Gundog Group 1 and Reserve Best in Show. Many congratulations.

2nd        SH CH FORFARIAN I'M SEXY AN I KNOW IT JW (MRS S & MISSES N & J STURROCK)

Well know boy who is an impressive dog who commands attention, super outline built on clean lines and well balanced from his neckline to his tail set. I liked his masculine head and expression, clean through the neck into a good front assembly. Good angulation throughout and just not quite the body he needed to complete the picture today. Handled and presented superbly with coat in gleaming condition. He moved true and covers the ground, although today he was a shade close behind and not the drive of the winner which cost him the top spot.

What a grand old chap he is, I was thrilled to see him walk in to the class. Now rising eight years old he still has that super outline and shape about him. Pleasing head of good shape and definition, with a good width of back skull. Kind eye than gave his that lovely expression. Clean neck in to well placed shoulders, super depth to chest. Well developed through the body with ribs well sprung and a firm loin. Excellent quarters with stifles well bent. Gently sloping top line. He moved with power and drive around the ring. My Best Veteran and later went on to win Veteran Group 4.

2nd        CORRIEBRAN DIAGEM (MR T R & MRS G J GRIFFIN)

Smart dog, he has a pleasing head and expression and clean reach of neck. Not quite the front construction of the winner. Good length of body, spring of rib and gently sloping top line. Well made quarters with a moderate bend of stifle and hocks well let down. Moved with elegance.

A very well balanced young lady. Not quite a forward in development as some of the others in the class but scored in overall construction and she was clearly the best mover in this class. She has a pleasing head and expression, still needs to finish but has plenty of time on her side. Super neck and shoulder placement, good front assembly, standing on well bone legs and neat feet. Well bodied for her age and ribbed back to a firm loin, super finish to the croup and quarters developing well. Good bone and substance and moved with style and elegance, accurate in footfall.

A very well balanced young lady with a pleasing head and expression, super neck and shoulder placement, good front assembly, standing on well bone legs, would like tighter feet. Well bodied and ribbed back to a firm loin, super finish to the croup and quarters developing well. Good bone and substance and moved well but not the drive of the winner.

Clean in neck leading to well placed shoulders and a good return of upper arm, depth through the forechest and straight front. Ribs well back and sprung to a firm and powerful loin. Lovely bend of stifles and short from hock to heal. Correct in outline and finish to the croup. She moved freely with drive with such ease, her tail lashing. She has good overall construction. Body of correct proportion with ribs well developed for her age. Quarters well made. Really enjoyed herself on the move and had a super lashing tail but didn’t quite have the front extension of the winner today, a really nice type of bitch.

2nd        SANDSTREAM SUMMER BREEZE JW (MISS S WATERTON)

Another very nice young lady who pushed 1 hard today. Out of a different mould to the winner, very feminine and balanced head with a soft expression. Good front construction and overall balance, Quarters well developed with stifles well bent. Presented her beautiful racy outline on the stack, but she was quite not as good on the move as the winner today.

1st          ANLORY CORBIERES JW (MR N & MISS J NAYLOR & MORRISON)

What a little star this little lady is, one of the best movers in the whole entry. She has the most beautiful head and melting expression, just right for her age. Correctly proportioned with that lovely mischievous look in her eye. Clean through the neck which led on to well-placed shoulders. Front has the correct angulation, straight with the right depth of chest for her age. Standing on good legs and neat feet. Well made through the body. Superbly made quarters with well bent stifles. Moved effortlessly around the ring. Excellent fore and aft, with super footfall. She was in my mind for top honours but she just needs some finish to complete the picture. In my humble opinion she is destined for the top.

2nd        SANDSTREAM WELCOME BREEZE JW (MISS S WATERTON)

Another one I like a lot, a very typy bitch who looked lovely on the stack with a gleaming coat. Beautiful head and eye, giving a soft and gentle expression. Lovely reach to her neck and this flowed into well placed shoulders, Good body properties, slightly longer cast than one. Excellent quarters, stifles well bent and developed. She didn’t quite find her feet today and couldn’t match the winner on the move which was unfortunate. Another that should have a bright future ahead of her.

Standing on well boned legs and super neat feet. Correct body proportions, super top line and finish to the croup. Good bend of stifle and in firm condition. Was sound and fluid on the move today with a good action. In the challenge she decided to play her handler up and just couldn’t match the open winner so had to be content with the RCC today. In the challenge I would have just liked a little more enthusiasm to complete the picture.

2nd        SUTERESETT ONCE UPON A DREAM (MRS T & MISS G GISBY)

A feminine lady she is presenting an elegant yet racy picture. She has a pleasing head but I preferred the expression of the winner. Super clean reach of neck which led on to well placed shoulders. The most elegant and stylish of outlines, pleasing head and soft expression, good reach of neck and balanced angles both fore and aft.   Standing on well boned legs and super feat. Good through the body. Covering the ground with ease and style, I could hardly believe she is eight as she was really giving the youngsters a run for their money.

2nd        BARDONHILL DAYS ARE DIAMOND JW (MRS M BOTT)

This was the moment that pulled on my heart strings. I have always loved this lady since she was a youngster, and as some will know we have her show champion daughter at home. It was wonderful to see her here today and I must admit it brought a tear to my eye. Now eleven and a half she still has that wonderful outline and character that I have always loved, head elegant and feminine. Just showed her age on the move and that reflected in the placing. I realised when looking through the results that she was the mother of my Bitch RCC winner so I think it is fair to say she has produced some fabulous progeny. Thank you for bringing her today it was an honour to have her entered under me.
