Decisions were close in many classes and such a variety of Irish Setters in size, coat and heads (I hesitate to say “types”) meant many different things to like about many of the dogs but to try and get everything together was not always possible. My thanks for the many beautifully prepared and conditioned dogs I had the enormous pleasure of putting hands on.
MP (9/1)
1st Drinkwater’s Brabrook Shanavaz. Super puppy with all the breed essentials correct for his age including lovely rich chestnut coat. Very confident and free mover with required gently sloping topline. Look forward to see him mature.
2nd Barker-Bell’s Balintyne The Continental. Racy baby with lots of scope. Excellent topline standing and moving, first class quarters, delightful refined head, needs time but loved his style and on brief occasions moved well.
3rd Sheldon’s Balintyne Foreign Intrigue at Delstanto.
Puppy (16/0)
Super class I liked so many.
1st Bott’s Bardonhill Tom Foolery BP. Gorgeous headed youngster, dark, expressive eyes and good finish to muzzle. Good depth of chest and length of body to correct croup and tailset. Good mover delighted to see him pulled out in the puppy group. 2nd Willis & Hay’s Carnbargus Con Amore. Quality puppy with refined head. Lots of scope and substance, correct topline standing and moving, like him very much and was very close to 1st.
3rd Lewis’s Deaconara Danse de Bleu avec Dotcomsetter.
Junior (14/6)
1st Subbs’ Riverbrue Zeus. Quality youngster with lots of scope and great bone, super head and expression, excellent front. Clean neck and shoulders with correct topline and good finish over croup. Superb on the move holding his topline and lashing his tail. In gleaming coat and condition, loved him.
2nd Ciezhonska’s Coppers Champagne on Ice at Aoibheanne. Another quality youngster, similar style and shape to one. Beautiful head, clean neck and shoulders and good body properties. Stylish mover and was very close up to 1st.
3rd Axon’s Brinara Back in the Running.
Yearling (10/0)
1st Mugford’s Copper’s Undercover at Lynwood. Refined and racy youngster with well balanced head and gentle expression. Good front and strong body, excellent croup and tailset. Flowing outline which he held on the move.
2nd Bradley’s Riverman Yeats at Fernhectare. Good type, well balanced outline, good angulation and strong quarters. Racy boy without exaggeration who excelled on the move.
3rd King’s Severnvale High Tide via Brenrue.
Novice (8/1)
1st R Zeus.
2nd C Champagne on Ice.
3rd S High Tide.
UnderGrad (8/1)
1st C Champagne on Ice.
2nd Cayton-Lee & Lee’s Rubratinneh Medicine Man. Liked his type and shape. Good head and liked him on the move but would just like a bit more of him.
3rd Callister’s Redclyst Ben My Chree by Redleven.
Graduate (8/1)
1st Roffey’s Gwendariff Top of the Pops. RCC. First what a glorious head on this boy, really classical such a pleasure to see. He is so well put together, balanced and proportionate, everything fitted and flowed, Had good sternum, so nice to feel the sternum fit into the palm of your hand like an egg into a cup. Super topline standing and moving. He is young and has lots more to come but I loved his overall quality and type, and his movement when he got himself together with his handler. Also his coat was just the rich chestnut that I love, his tail never stopped lashing, a real showman.
2nd Harvey’s Jubliana Murphy Midnight Star. Really nice type, strong deep body, great topline, depth of chest, and strong well muscled quarters. Moved really soundly and in gleaming coat.
3rd Bott’s Bardonhill Grinning Bear.
Post Grad (20/2)
Good class.
1st Pine’s Seowns Archer. Elegant dog with racy outline, well balanced and free mover. Loved his bone and substance and his delightful head and expression. Excellent front and correct topline. In super gleaming coat a first class example of the breed.
2nd Gardner’s Riqitta Authentic. Lovely type, first class head and expression. Well made and has great balance. Handled very well and pushed winner hard but proud of his tail on the move.
3rd Pike’s Redclyst Vladamir.
Limit (23/2)
Liked all 5 placed enough to give them a first but on the day,
1st. Crocker & Hammick’s Riverbrue Dionysus. Mature dog with great style and balance. What joy to approach an Irish with a wagging tail to greet you. In fact he never stopped using his tail which was a delight to see when he moved, expertly handled and enjoying every minute, clean cut and racy in profile. His style and showmanship won him this very strong and varied class.
2nd Holley & Cheney’s Gwendariff Pop the Question. Young boy with striking outline. Lots to like about him and he has tremendous scope. Fantastic bone and a real stallion, a super prospect for the future.
3rd Edwards’ Gwendariff Rockin Robin.
Open (7/1)
1st Holehan & North’s ShCh Erinade Starwars. CC. Fulfils so much of the standard. Completely balanced from nose to tail. Classically proportioned head and most melting expression. Neck fits into shoulders smoothly, gently sloping topline to correct croup and tailset and sweeping strong quarters. He is magnificent and he didn’t put a foot wrong to win the CC. In the run off for BOB he decided to be lazy and this lost him BOB to a super young bitch. However on the lap of honour when he ran behind the bitch he was Magnificent.
2nd Roffey’s ShCh Danaway Lancelot of Autumnwood. Worthy champion, racy and with quality, superb on the move just not in his best coat.
3rd Milligan-Bott & Bott’s Scotslaw Detroit Spinner by Thendara.
