Critique - Judge: Laura Stuart-Cook (Dawnglo)

Thank you to all exhibitors for the lovely entry. Although it was a shame there were so many absentees on the day, I hope the entry fees will have made a substantial contribution to the IBCS Rescue Scheme. I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at this friendly, well-run show, and my stewards for all their hard work. On the whole, bitches were stronger than dogs, but there were some promising youngsters in both sexes. I was concerned by the number of upright fronts and dipping toplines I saw, and a number of dogs didn’t move their best on the rubber mats. Nevertheless, I was delighted with my winners and am sure they will all enjoy much success in the future.

1 Chorley-Newton & Chorley's Pawsword Priceless To Kerryfair – I absolutely loved this boy. Looks a picture standing, with each part of his construction flowing cleanly into the next. He possesses a handsome, chiselled head with raised brow and that cheeky Irish expression that suggests he might get up to mischief at any point! His neck flows cleanly into well-laid shoulders, he has good depth of chest, and correct angulation fore and aft. Loved his rich chestnut coat and gently sloping topline. Moved with drive and coordination belying his age. I’m sure he will have a very bright future indeed. BPD, BPIS.
2 Stockton's Riverbrue Alchemist – Another promising pup who was unlucky to meet my winner on such good form. Loved his sound construction, gently sloping topline, straight front and depth of chest; just preferred the head of my winner.

 JD (3,2)
1 Russell's Strathmead Huckleberry – Appealing young dog with plenty of potential. Handsome head and nicely made all through, with correct angulation, good depth of chest and straight front. Liked his tight, cat-like feet. He was rather boisterous on the move and I would encourage his owner to take him to ringcraft as I didn’t like seeing the lead placed across his nose to try and control him.

 SYD (4,1)
1 Stockton's Gwendariff D'Ya Think I'm Fab For Kespas – Promising youngster who won this class on his movement, which was straight and true. Liked his dark coat, sloping topline, correct bend of stifle and tailset. He possesses a masculine head with low-set ear. Just needs time to mature.
2 Sharman's Kerrimere Indiscreet – Another lovely young dog who is a credit to his owner. More mature than my winner and in excellent coat and condition. Lovely head with melting expression, just didn’t move his best in the hall today.
3 Harrison's Maimees Halloween

ND (5,3)
1 Lewis & Levene's Bardonhill Ginger Nut At Valasarch – Fourth in a strong MP class and has lots to admire. Rich chestnut coat in gleaming condition, gently sloping topline and neat feet. His head is just a little heavy for his frame at present, but I am sure this will change as he matures. Very well handled.
2 Harrison's Maimees Halloween

UGD (6,4)
1 Sharman's Kerrimere Indiscreet – Second in SYD. Was more settled on the move in this class.
2 Crowther's Penwyn Going to San Francisco

GD (8,3)
1 Hyslop's Gwendariff Justin Thyme JW – Really like this eye-catching young dog, who has the quality and construction to go far. As you would expect from his breeding, his outline is stunning – with a gently arched neck leading to a sloping topline. Has correct angulation front and rear, but his owner needs to take care not to over-stretch him. Possesses a handsome, masculine head with raised brows and low-set ears, and tight, cat-like feet. Moved with drive and coordination, despite the small ring. His overall balance gave him the edge in the challenge but he could not match my BB on maturity – BD and RBIS.
2 Hoskins' Sandstream Just A Breeze – My notes say ‘tough decision between two lovely dogs’. Really liked his type and darker coat colour. Nice, straight front, correct topline, and really handsome head. Just preferred the depth of chest of my winner. Will watch his future with interest.
3 Stockton's Gwendariff D'Ya Think I'm Fab For Kespas

PGD (6,1)
1 Cohen's Aiobheanne's Rough Diamond With Shushana JW – Handsome boy who won this class with ease thanks to his overall balance and movement. He has a lovely outline, correct tailset and well angulated rear, with good width of second thigh. Has a chiselled head and richly coloured coat but is slightly curlier than I would like. Moved steadily and very well handled.
2 Byard's Cataluna Some Like It Hot at Purleyrose – Looked a picture standing and is well made throughout, his head was just a little feminine for me.
3 Davis' Brinara New Statesman at Corribeg

LD (7,3)
1 Muir's Romarne Taittinger JW – Tough decision between two lovely dogs of very different types. My winner is an unassuming young dog has lots to admire. Handsome head and expression, with good length of neck flowing cleanly into well-laid shoulders. He has a straight front, gently sloping topline and moves steadily off tight feet. Shown in gleaming condition and very well handled. Just lacked the ring presence and drive of my overall winner, RBD.
2 Drinkwater's Brabrook Shazalazazoo – Really liked this young dog. He is rangier than my winner and needs more time to finish, but will watch how he matures with interest.
3 Axon's Brinara Private Eye

OD (2,1)
1 Cohen's Caispern Lorenzo with Shushana JW ShCM – Stood alone but a very worthy winner. Mature dog in full bloom with an excellent head with raised brows and quizzical expression. Good depth of chest, straight front, and correct angulation front and rear, with good width of thigh. He powered around the ring at one with his handler. Just had a tendency for his topline to dip, which cost him higher honours today.

 VD (2)
1 Axon's Brinara Back In The Running – Two lovely veterans here, who are both a credit to their owners. There is no denying the construction of my winner. So well made all through, with each part flowing cleanly into the next. He has a handsome head, correct angulation fore and aft, and he moved with coordination. Just preferred the slightly darker eye of the bitch in the challenge but I was really splitting hairs and was not surprised to see they are both from the same kennel, BVD.
2 Gardner's Mayfred Mr Moondance JW ShCM – Another lovely, unexaggerated dog with a handsome, masculine head.

 MPB (7,2)
1 Hall's Riverbrue Ophelia At Glennara – This was the best class of the day – I could easily have given out five red cards. Loved this young bitch and am sure she will go far. She has such a pretty head with raised brow and low-set ear. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders and on to a gently sloping topline with correct tailset. Has good depth of chest and ample forechest, which was lacking in many. Won the class on her movement, which was straight and true. Just lacked maturity against my PB winner.
2 Chorley-Newton & Chorley's Pawsword Peppermint for Kerryfair – Absolutely loved this girl, who is litter sister to my BPIS, she just insisted on pulling back when standing.
3 Muir's Romarne April Showers

PB (7,2)
1 Naylor & Morrison's Anlory Carignan BPB – I understand this was only her fourth show, but you’d never have known from her paw-perfect performance. Lots of admire, from her feminine head to her lovely tight feet. She has a straight front, good depth of chest, correct angulation front and rear, and a gently sloping topline. Presented in gleaming coat and condition, and very well handled. At 11 months, her relative maturity made her stand out in this class. BPB, well done.
2 Hall's Riverbrue Ophelia At Glennara
3 Chorley-Newton & Chorley's Pawsword Peppermint For Kerryfair

JB (7,3)
1 Frampton's Strathmead Mulberry – Splitting hairs between these two. My winner is a very feminine bitch who I later discovered is litter sister to my JD winner. She is unexaggerated, with correct confirmation throughout. Straight front, sloping topline and correct tailset. Moved soundly. Would prefer a little more depth to her muzzle but she won on her overall balance.
2 Mugford's Lynwood Isn't She Lovely – Such a lovely young bitch with the most beautiful head. Stylish mover, just felt my winner was more together on the day.
3 Gardner's Tiroen Teardrops Explodes Danwish

2 Gardner's Tiroen Teardrops Explode Danwish – More mature bitch who was third in a strong junior class. Pretty head, nicely sloping topline. Just a little upright in angulation for me.

1 Frampton's Strathmead Mulberry
2 Mugford's Lynwood Isn't She Lovely

GB (5,4)
1 Hyslop's Gwendariff On A Rollacoasta – Stood alone but a very worth winner. Stunning outline and so well made all through. Flows beautifully from her feminine head to the tip of her well-set tail. She has a straight front, good depth of rib and correct angulation front and rear. Lovely neat feet. Moved with drive and coordination.

PGB (6,3)
1 Heather's Caskeys Movie Star At Sixoaks JW – I’ve never seen this bitch look better than she did today. So well made all through, with a straight front, good depth of chest, flowing topline and gently arched neck. Very pretty head with raised brows and gentle expression. She is a little paler than I would like but was presented in excellent coat and condition. Drove around the ring at one with her handler. A very worthy RBB, congratulations.
2 Chorley-Newton & Chorley's Kerryfair Hattie – A lovely bitch with the most beautiful head. Just tended to pull back when standing.
3 Cox & Nevitt's Romarne Orlaith

LB (2,2)

OB (4,2)
1 Gardner's Thendara Jocasta JW – My star of the day. Absolutely beautiful bitch, who is in her prime. She is so eye catching, both standing and on the move. Stunning head with melting expression, raised brows and low-set ears. Her gently arched neck leads cleanly into well-set shoulders and on to her flowing topline. Good depth of chest, straight front, tight feet, and correct angulation fore and aft. She powered around the ring in complete harmony with her handler, who really knows how to get the best out of her. Easily the best mover of the day. I was delighted to see that she took her second CC the following weekend – I’m sure her third isn’t far away. BB and BIS, congratulations.
2 Drinkwater's Brabrook Boomshakalaka – Another lovely bitch who was unlucky to come up against my winner on such good form. Steady mover.

VB (6,4)
1 Berry & Morris' Brinara Briet – Lovely to see both these girls enjoying their day out; I think they were more excited than the pups! My winner has a very pretty head, good depth of chest, straight front, gently sloping topline and correct tailset. She has correct angulation front and rear and moved with coordination. Expertly handled. BVIS
2 Jarvis' Carnbargus Confession – Another lovely veteran who is a credit to the breed.

SB D/B (1)
1 Cox & Nevitt's Romarne Orlaith – Third in a strong PG glass. Nice, dark-coated bitch with sloping topline and neat feet. Well angulated. Just lacked drive on the move.
