Critique - Judge: Miss C M Loughlin (Rohanmor)

I would like to thank the committee of National Dog show for extending to me the invitation to judge at their well run show. It was also an honour and a pleasure to undertake this task and being held at Staffordshire County Showgrounds made it all the more enjoyable as this venue holds special memories for me. The club’s hospitality was superb and I would like to thank both my ring-stewards as they were exceptional. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors who allowed me the opportunity to judge their dogs and I feel that we have many outstanding examples of our breed being shown at this present time. It is unfortunate that many dogs in the higher classes had to go without cards. I was also pleased to see that all dogs were in excellent muscular condition which shows that they are more than fit for the purpose for which they were bred.

MPD (8,1a)

1. Stewart-Ritchie & Smith’s Gwendariff The Big Atraxion, a very promising 6½month old baby who on first glance is very impressive, slightly different in head to what my preference is but he excels in body shape with that lovely chunkiness that a puppy of his age should possess, he is very well constructed throughout and has plenty of bone, his sire has definitely put his stamp on this boy, for one so young he moved very well holding his topline which flowed into a nice tail-set to win this class, presented in lovely coat and condition,

2. Miller & Wollbraaten’s Caemgen’s Element of Truth At Feorlig (Imp Swe), a lovely baby of almost 9 months who is nicely balanced in profile and another whose sire has most certainly put his stamp on, pleasing in head with good eye shape, excellent front assembly and sternum, well bodied with good rear angulations, very happy positive movement on this baby,

3. Sturrock’s Forfarian I’m Sexy An I Know It.

PD (15,3a)

1. Mitchell’s Suteresett Go The Distance With Staxyll, 10 month old medium sized boy who is completely together for one so young, he is handsome in head with a kind expressive dark eye, moderate length to neck leading to good shoulder placement, plenty of width to forechest and standing on strong straight legs with good depth to chest, correct amount of rear angulations for his age, moved very well with good tail carriage, his lovely dark coat completed the picture BPD,

2. Stewart-Ritchie & Smith’s Gwendariff The Big Atraxion,

3. Sturrock’s Forfarian I;m Sexy An I Know It.

JD (7,1a)

1. Rutherford’s Clonageera Kinross Love Barolo, gorgeous boy whom I have watched before from the ring-side and was delighted to be able to judge him, at 13 months of age he is still only a baby and there is so much more to come from this young man, just adore his head with that dark kind eye and melting expression, excellent sternum, elegant neck set into well laid shoulders, nicely bodied for his age, correct front and rear angulations, gentle slope to topline leading to a good tail-set, moved very well with excellent reach and drive to win this class, most certainly one for the future,

2. Naylor, Morrison & Greenan’s Anlory Keltic Blue Sky JW, at just over 12 months this boy is just into junior but he is quite mature for his age, nice chiselling to head with dark eye, good length to neck leading to well placed shoulders, correct topline, super depth to chest, his rear movement is not as together as my winner but hopefully this will improve as he gets older,

3. Cuddy’s Suteresett Rebel Rouser in Balbriggan.

YD (4,2a)

1. Cuddy’s Aiobheannes Quite The Rebel By Balbriggan JW, 23 month old boy maturing at just the right pace and possessing a super head with plenty of work to foreface and a dark well shaped eye, good front, moderate length to neck flowing into good shoulders, excellent topline with good tail carriage, correct amount of rear angulations, good positive movement holding his top-line as he strode around the ring,

2. Mazan’s Trawricka Klever Kid With Haremach (Imp Bel), handsome headed young man of just over 18 months of age, quite a big boy but his excellent depth to chest and super body can carry his height, good width to forechest with excellent sternum, moderate length to neck, correct amount of rear angulations, super topline which he held on the move.

ND (8)

1. Mitchell’s Suteresett Go The Distance With Staxy,
2. Naylor, Morrison & Greenan’s Anlory Keltic Blue Sky JW
3. Cuddy’s Suteresett Rebel Rouser In Balbriggan.

UGD (2)

1. Pallister’s Penwyn Red Admiral, 2 year old boy, nice head with kind well shaped eye, straight front, good bone, plenty of body with super depth to chest, well angulated fore & aft, excellent topline, moved very well to win the class,

2.Danks-Kemish’s Glennara Twist’n’Shout Alolfran, 5th in the junior class and being just short of 14 months of age he was very much a baby compared to my winner, loved his head, good front, moderate length to neck, nicely bodied for his age, movement still to come together but he is very well muscled for one so young.

GD (5,1a)

1. Cohen’s Caispern Lorenzo With Shushana JW, 2 year old boy who I judged as a very raw minor puppy and since then I have admired him from the ringside. My previous notes said “there is more to come” and that is most certainly happening with this handsome young man, just love his head which is nicely chiselled with a kind dark eye, straight front with good sternum, moderate length to well arched neck, excellent depth to body, correct amount of rear angulations and well muscled hindquarters which showed as he moved with drive and free flowing action around the ring, presented in super coat and condition completed the picture on this gorgeous boy, was pleased to award him the ResCC,

2. Luto’s Rappatty Excalibur, another boy at 2 years of age and I have done him well before when I judged, he too possesses a lovely head and kind dark eye, he is maturing well and he excels in body and overall shape, his topline is excellent which he holds on the move with correct tail carriage, super dark coat presented in excellent condition, he moved very well, although as I noticed another judge commenting too, someone with a faster pace could get so much more out of this boy on the move,

3. Swainston’s Togipoto Ice God At Glenvarna.

PGD (10,1a)

1. Bailey’s Glencarron Sunbeam, 3 year old handsome boy whom I have had the pleasure of judging before having given him two classes as a youngster and was pleased to see that he has now grown into a very fine example of our breed, he commanded this class, his head is now well developed, this boy has such a kind dark eye and I just love his well raised brow displaying that inquisitive look, he is well off for bone, standing on strong legs with the best of feet, he excels in width of forechest and sternum, ribs well sprung, he now has maturity to go with his excellent confirmation, this boy is a credit to his owner and his presentation is first class as he is in tip-top condition in both coat and muscle tone and his excellent muscular condition showed as he moved round the ring driving off short strong hocks,

2. Greenan’s Anlory The Living Daylights Over Juleset JW, another whom I have done well when I judged before and who is now at full maturity at just over 4 years of age, he presents a very pleasing and balanced picture when standing, masculine and powerful without being course excels in head with dark eye, moderate length of neck leading to good shoulder placement, super depth to chest, excellent topline, hard muscular condition which again showed as he drove around the ring, just love his rich chestnut coat which was very well presented and in excellent condition.

3. Gardner’s Mayfred Mr Moondance JW

LD (10,2a)

1. Bott & Allen’s Ember Red Hot Chili Pepper Of Quensha (Imp Swe) 3 year old medium sized boy who gave his handler a hard time, much to like about him as he is not overdone in any way, he is so mischievous with that typical Irish glint in his eye, nice shape to head with kind eye, excellent width to forechest & sternum, standing on strong legs with neat feet, well bodied throughout, strong through back leading to muscular loin, correct angulations fore and aft, wide and powerful hindquarters which enabled him to stride with positive driving action around the ring, just loved his lashing tail – he is such a happy boy, albeit very naughty one,

2. Rance’s Mayfred Mr Magnifico, still lots to like about this medium sized boy and he too is not overdone, he has always been a favourite of mine since puppyhood, good work to head with a kind well shaped dark eye, nicely boned, excellent front assembly and he excels in sternum, strong muscular and well arched neck leading to well placed shoulders, super depth to chest, good width to quarters which were in excellent muscular condition allowing him to move with drive,

3. Wood’s Reddins Falcon ShCM

OD (5,2a)

On first glance I found three boys standing before me who are not only excellent examples of our breed, are firm favourites of mine,

1. Harvey’s Sh Ch Jubliana Murphy Midnight Star Sh CM., he came, he saw, he conquered, this boy was definitely my Star of the day, having admired him since the last time I judged I was pleased to have the opportunity to judge him again, at 5 years of age he is now fully mature and is nicely balanced and full of quality, he possesses the most handsome of heads with that lovely soft Irish expression, well boned, excellent front, good width to fore-chest & plenty of sternum, well arched muscular neck leading to well laid back shoulders, gentle and firm in topline, excellent depth of chest with well sprung ribs, he still has one of the best tail carriages, with short strong hocks, wide and powerful hindquarters he flowed around the ring with positive driving action and correct footfall with the happy disposition that is characteristic of our breed, another who was presented in excellent coat and condition and I was more than pleased to award him CC & BOB,

2. Milligan-Bott, Bott & Lauwers’ Thendara Frozen Asset JW, a handsome boy who I admire very much and when stacked is quite eye-catching, he has a long and lean classical head, he excels in front and width to fore-chest, good lay-back of shoulders, excellent depth to body, gentle slope to firm topline held well on the move, for me today he lacked that true Irish spirit with which I have seen him demonstrate in the past, and possibly due to the fact of him having a different handler meant he didn’t give his all on the day,

3. Lewis’ Deaconara Danse De Bleu Avec Dotcomsetter JW ShCM.

VD (3)

1. Carter’s Kerrimere Just Rumours, handsome headed 7 year old boy not long into veteran, built on a strong frame he excels in width to fore-chest, depth to body, he is nicely balanced throughout, his topline at times is just starting to go but he won this class on his true and steady movement,

2. Ashley-Turner’s Biabreeze Fred Astaire, another nicely balanced boy who at 8½ years of age is just starting to show his age, he is still my type of boy, strong, well made, possessing a handsome head, super depth to body, correct amount of rear angulations, he is just starting to slow down now,

3. Kenny’s Burrenmist Hot Toddy.

MPB (10,2a)

1. Gracie’s Summergate Chuchundra, much to like about this promising 6½ month old baby girl, she is so well balanced, loved her head and kind dark eye with that cheeky glint in it, correct front and width to fore-chest, she has an excellent sternum and a super depth of chest for one so young, well bodied with plenty of bone, topline firm and held well on the move, such a joy to watch her lovely baby movement, her rich chestnut coat which gleamed put the finishing touches to this super little one BPIB,

2. Wilkins’ Margretwoods C’Est La Vie, 7 month old baby girl who is also very promising although her head is slightly different to what I prefer there is good work to it with a kind dark eye, she too is so well balanced for her age with plenty of body, correct front and good sternum, good topline which she held on the move,

3. Sturrock’s Forfarian Hey Sexy Lady.

PB (12,3a)

1. Muir’s Romarne One Night Only, quite an elegant youngster who just finishes her puppy classes today, refined head with well shaped dark eye, excellent front with plenty of sternum, shoulders well laid back, correct top-line, super depth to chest, moved very well to win this class, she was presented in excellent coat and condition and with her feathering just starting to drop down this put the finishing touches to this classy youngster,

2. Wilkins’ Margretwoods C’Est La Vie,

3. Sturrock’s Forfarian Hey Sexy Lady.

JB (6,2a)

1. Smith’s Reddins Garbo, this 14½ month old medium sized lady who appeals very much for type, plenty of work to balanced feminine head with well shaped dark eye, straight in front, moderate length to neck leading to good layback of shoulder, firm topline, plenty of substance on a balanced frame, short hocks and good muscle tone allowed her to move with drive holding her topline and leading to a correct tailset, her rich chestnut put the finishing touches to this young lady,

2. Swainston’s Glenvarna Dora The Explorer, another lovely young lady who is quite striking in outline, head balanced and feminine with good eye shape and expression, good front assembly, sound and well constructed with plenty of depth to chest, well muscled quarters with good sweep to stifles, sound positive movement,

3, Griffin’s Danaway Love Song For Corrriebran

YB (8,1a)

1.Wilkins’Bardonhill Hetty Bayliss Among Margretwoods JW, quality young lady who is very pleasing to look at, loved this girl’s head, feminine and pleasing in shape with good eye, correct front with good width to forechest and excellent sternum, clean neck with good reach and well laid back shoulders, nicely matured with ample depth to chest and well bodied for her age, gentle slope to topline leading to good tailset, good rear angulations, moved very well to win this class,

2. Gracie’s Summergate Juicy Lucy, another lovely girl who too possesses a beautiful head with a kind dark eye, when stacked in profile she is such a joy to look at and once you put our hands on her what you see is what you get, straight front with excellent sternum, well off for bone, super depth to chest and she too is well bodied for her age, topline held on the move with good tailset, such a balanced young lady, unfortunately as she seemed a little unsettled her movement was just not as together as my winner,

3. Meadows’ Gwendariff Whipsa Daisy.

NB (6,) 1. Gracie’s Summergate Chuchundra, 2. Muir’s Romarne One Night Only, 3. Jepsen’s Twoacres Lucky Charm.

UGD (6)

1.Lippett’s Neathamill Isabella At Clonageera, what an amazing young lady, she possesses the most beautiful head which is long and lean with correct eye shape and colouring with neat low set ears and finished off with the softest of expressions, well boned and with strong straight front she excels in forechest and sternum, plenty of depth to chest with well sprung ribs, perfect gentle slope to topline and correct tailset, strong rear quarters with correct angulations, she is perfectly balanced and moved so true and steady with such grace to win the ResCC, coat condition and presentation was also first class, definitely one to watch,

2. Lorrimer’s Oakchase Alexis (AI), another excellent example of our breed, this young lady also excels in head proportions and has the sweetest of expressions, good width to forechest and excellent sternum, strong muscular neck of moderate length leading to well laid back shoulders, well bodied with well sprung ribs and strong in loin, excellent muscle in her hindquarters allowed her to move with correct positive action around the ring,

3. Corless’ Lynwood Just For Larks

GB (6,2a)

1.Harvey’s Jubliana Sorraia, I see this lovely girl is from a repeat mating of my DogCC winner and she has many similar attributes, she is so well constructed with plenty of substance yet still remaining feminine, pleasing in head with well shaped dark eye, clean neck of moderate length and good shoulder placement, good bone and substance to body, firm topline, well muscled hindquarters with good bend of stifles leading to short strong hocks which showed in her sound driving movement,

2. Sketchley’s Oakchase Gulietta (AI), pretty head with kind expression and well shaped eye, straight front with good fore-chest and ample sternum, good depth of chest and spring of rib, nicely angulated front and rear with well muscled hindquarters, gentle slope to top-line which was held well on the move,

3. Carter’s Gwendariff Specially Maid.

PGB (10,1a)

1.These first two ladies have done well under me before as youngsters and it is evident to see that they are both maturing into fine examples of the breed, 1. Muir’s Romarne Savannah JW, her head is very eyecatching and balanced with correct eye shape and colouring, well arched muscular neck, excellent forechest and sternum with plenty of depth to body, clean firm topline leading to correct tailset which is carried very well on the move, medium sized she is so well balanced with no exaggerations, good width to strong hindquarters and in good hard muscular condition which allowed her to move with precision and drive, her rich chestnut coat gives her a lovely finish,

2. Danks-Kemish’s Alolfran Copocabana, this lady also possesses a balanced head with plenty of work and dark almond shaped eye and quizzical expression, like my winner she is a medium sized bitch with plenty of bone and substance and stands on a well built frame without loosing her feminine look, strong muscular neck, topline firm and held well on the move, nicely balanced in profile, well muscled and sound on the move, coat of a rich dark colour and in excellent order,

3. Gardner, Milligan-Bott & Bott’s Thendara Jocasta JW.

LB (16,2a)

1. Meadows’ Gwendariff Miss Whiplash JW, so pleased to finally be able to judge this gorgeous girl whom I have admired on many occasions, at over 5 years of age she is now fully matured, built on clean lines, well balanced attractive head with raised brow and kind eye giving a gentle expression, she excels in front assembly standing on strong legs leading to neat feet, well arched clean neck of moderate length leading to well laid back shoulders, super depth to ribs which are well sprung, gentle slope to firm topline, plenty of width to quarters which are strong and muscular, this girl presents a balanced picture full of quality with nothing overdone, coat in full bloom and in super condition her finalé was her steady and purposeful driving movement which won her this class and her all important 3rd CC,

2. Hunter & Brown’s Fairhaven Louise Mountbatten At Braidmount (Imp Swe), built on a larger frame than my winner this is another classic lady full of quality and elegance, long and lean balanced head with ears well set on and low, strong muscular neck, excellent width to forechest and sternum, body construction is super with front and rear angulations in balance, plenty of width to quarters which were well muscled, she moved with good extension and drive and displaying excellent tail carriage, presented in full coat and perfect condition,

3. Stevenson’s Lochlorien Prime Suspect For Andley JW ShCM

OB (3,2a)

1. Waterton’s Lynwood Kissed By An Angel At Sandstream JW, another lovely lady who has done well under me before and although she stood alone here today she is indeed a worthy winner, in fact I believe since I last judged her she has gained her crown, she has now fully matured and in profile she is feminine and attractive, head long and lean with good eye shape, standing on strong legs with good bone, excellent forechest and plenty of sternum, good body proportions, gentle slope to topline, correct angulations fore and aft giving a balanced outline, super width to quarters which were so well muscled, sound positive movement, presented in full bloom and lovely condition.

VB (3,1a)

1. Waterton’s Lynwood Strands of Silk At Sandstream JW Sh CM. Having judged this beautiful lady before when she was almost 10 years of age I was delighted to see her still in the ring now at the tender age of 11½ and boy could she show some of the younger generation how to move. Her head is so feminine with correct shape to dark eye, moderate length to neck with good shoulder placement, she still has plenty of body and her topline is firm and gentle sloping and is held well on the move, nicely angulated and strong muscular hindquarters, in excellent coat condition, this beauty thoroughly enjoys showing herself off in the ring and commands you not to ignore her,

2. Townsend’s Follidown Wisteria, 8 year old classy lady with that lovely Irish glint in her eye, appealing in head with well shaped dark eye, well put together on a stronger frame than my winner yet she still retains a pleasing balanced outline, correct front assembly with plenty of width to forechest and still standing on strong and firm well boned legs, nicely muscled hindquarters, this lovely lady’s happy disposition was a joy to watch as she moved with the verve of a youngster.
