Critique - Judges - Bitches: Mrs Ro Cox (Tiroen)

Thank you for such a lovely entry and to the hardworking committee of the GBAS who made us so welcome, not forgetting my two great stewards who kept things moving. I was in complete agreement with my co-judge Dave Hemmings for our top awards and we were delighted to see our BOB be shortlisted for BIS and our Best Veteran take RBVIS.

I was quite concerned with the lack of our expressive heads, for me an Irish should talk to you with their eyes and I was disappointed in many classes. Nails on many needed attention and I know indoors it is not the same as being out on grass when showing our lovelyl breed, but dogs can and should still be able to move with drive and extension and there was some particularly erratic movement in the younger classes. Having said that, I was thrilled with my principal winners and I was delighted to have the opportunity to go over so many beautiful dogs.

VB (6,0) Lovely Class, our breed is a long lasting one as these 'oldies' are a testament to.

1 Stevenson's Lochlorien Prime Suspect for Andley JW SHCM, 8 year old presented a lovely balanced picture, well shaped head with a hint of mischief in her wise expression, pleasing neck and shoulders, correct topline maintained on the move, good width of thigh on not overdone rear angulation, strong body and strength through loin for her age, moved out with style and precision. Unlucky to come up against the BVD who was in top form.

2 Walsh's Sh Ch Millcroft Ballad Of The Moon JW, lovely pretty head and a wistful expression in her dark eyes, flowed from the neck down her gently sloping top line, nice length to body, good angulation front and back, deep through the ribs, strong topline, well presented, sound on the move maintaining a lovely outline.

3 Hogsflesh's Sh Ch Lyngor Living Water JW

MPB (10,2)

1 Hunter & Brown's Braidmount Lady In Waiting, just 6 months and lots going for her, prettiest of heads, dark eye and low set ears, good angulation front and back, dark coat, neat feet, well ribbed back and depth of chest for her age giving a balanced picture, moved soundly for one so young.

2 Stewart-Ritchie's Aoibheanne Smart Move, well constructed puppy with a clean outline, lovely head and expression, correct angulation fore and aft, good length of body and topline, nice width over croup, good bone, beautifully presented, needs to come together on the move a bit more to show herself of at her best.

3 Holley's Wynjill Love Heart,

PB (14,4)

1 Holley's Wynjill Love Heart, was more settled on the move in this class, rangier girl, stands on well boned legs and feet, classic head with gentle expression, good return of upper arm, good depth of chest for age, nice topline, well balanced hindquarters, moved more positively.

2 Nevitt's Aoibheanne's Stay With Me, showed herself off better and was more steady on the move this time round, had gentle expression in well proportioned head, low set ears, good depth of chest, well ribbed back, good angulation front and back giving balanced overall picture.

3 Bayne & Randle's Irish Melody Kiss Her To Bits (Imp Est)

JB (10,3)

1 Nicolson's Gwendariff On A Tic Ett to Lochindorb, lovely head full of quality with a gentle expression, good eye shape, well presented, dark coat, good feet, good forehand construction and clean over the shoulders, firm topline, rangier bitch who just needs a bit more time, moved out confidently and happily.

2 Wallace's Gwendariff On A Chatline, beautiful well shaped head, lovely soft expression, smaller than 1st who I discovered is her sister, but has many of the same qualities, not overdone and moved out well.

3 Bell & Barker-Bell's Balintyme Say You Say Me

YB (5,0)

1 Blackshaw's Lanstara Spring Star JW, this young lady caught my eye, she combines substance with femininity, beautifully put together and although a little heavy over the shoulders today it didn't detract from lovely overall picture. Pretty head with gentle expression, nice length of neck into correct shoulder placement, good length and depth of rib, gently sloping topline and nicely angulated hindquarters. She moved out enthusiastically with a strong lashing tail.

2 Gracie's Clonagerra Walk With Me To Summergate JW CJW 2015 Ir Jn Ch, dark coat, beautifully presented in gleaming condition, strong in head, low set ears, well off for bone, well balanced height to length ratio, ribs carried well back, strong muscled up hindquarters giving strong driving movement.

3 Bell & Barker-Bell's Balintyne Say You Say Me

NB (12,3)

1 Stevenson's Lochlorien True Detective Is Andley, well balanced picture when stood, strong throughout, appealing in head with lovely proportions, low set ears, well off for bone, good shoulders and gently sloping topline, balanced angulation front and aft, ribs well let down, sound and steady mover.

2 Hinslea's Northamber Shabby Chic, well proportioned head, good length of neck, nice gently sloping topline, good depth of rib, well angulated at both ends, not as balanced today as 1st, ok movement.

3 Milby & Stewart-Ritchie Gwendariff We'll Rememberu

GB (10,2)

1 Morgan & Schofield's Jubilana Eternal Flame for Cwsscwn, lovely type, plenty of bone and substance without being overdone, good balance overall, well proportioned typical head, low set ears, strong through the neck, well sprung ribs carried well back, nicely balanced hindquarters, moved out steady and true.

2 Sloane's Ferasheen Pavanna JW, lovely appealing well shaped head, good length of neck, well laid back shoulders and proportioned front angulation, good depth and length of rib, gently sloping topline, good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns, moved out positively maintaining a firm topline.

3 Schellings Marland Woman in Red

PGB (13,4)

1 Bouttell's Ixia Ever Hopeful, stood out in this class, presented in excellent condition. Shiny dark coat, classic head with kind dark eyes and good expression, scores in shoulder placement and topline, well sprung ribs, good length to body, well balanced hindquarters and good set on of tail, presenting an attractive outline she moved freely with drive. I considered her hard for top honours but she just didn't have the verve in the challenge as she did have in her class

2 Borthwick's Northamber Runs Riot at Loutushill, lots to like about this lady who has substance and bone but still feminine throughout, lovely appealing pretty head with dark expressive eyes, good upper arm angulation, shoulder placement and depth of chest, neat feet, strong through the loin and powerful wide hindquarters. Well handled, sound movement striding out well.

3 Russell's Melmara Minervois

LB (16,3) Toughest class of the day and I could have happily had more cards to award,

1 Bayne's Corranroo Rainbow Kisses, Maintained the best outline and stride on the move to win the class, beautifully presented, dark gleaming coat, low set ears and well balanced lovely head, correct eye shape, excellent front with good forechest and gently sloping topline into strong well angulated hindquarters, presented a lovely balanced picture standing, moved out with drive and style.

2 Henderson's Sametsuz In A Fankle, loved her gorgeous head and expression, she makes use of naturally raised eyebrows and has that Irish twinkle, slightly rangier bitch she has substance but total feminine throughout, good length of neck leading to well placed shoulders, powerful wide hindquarters with good width of thigh, neat feet, moved out with enthusiasm.

3 Watt's Shenanagin Softly Softly JW

OB (5,O)

1 Bott, Allen & Morgan's SH Ch Bardonhill Please Don't Tease Quensha JW won the class on her animated movement, well ribbed, flowed from head to tail, and gave me the complete package, owned the ring and out moved the others, lashing tail, expressive head with that mischievous Irish glint that one looks for, well laid back shoulders with excellent angulation fore and aft, gently sloping top line to correct set on of tail, good width over croup, deep through ribs which was well carried back presenting an elegant outline, superb on the move she moved with style, reach and drive and as one with her owner. She was presented beautifully, I was thrilled to award her the CC and with the agreement of my co-judge BOB and then see her shortlisted in a strong line up for BIS.

2 Kolbach's CH Copper's Wine'n Roses (Imp Swe), enthusiastic mover and came back in to the challenge and deserved the RCC. Pretty head with quizzical expression, nicely arched neck, clean over the shoulders with excellent front, looked well proportioned and balanced standing. Well angulated rear but not over done. Lovely presentation and in good coat she was in hard muscled condition holding her topline on the move she moved out confidently and freely with enthusiasm.

3 Hunter & Brown's Sh Ch/Int Ch Fairhaven Louise Mountbatten at Braidmount (Imp Swe), was thrilled to have the opportunity to go over this lovely girl, just off a litter she didn't quite have the movement and condition of the others but presented a beautiful outline.
