Critique - Judges: Bitches Mrs Julie Humphreys

Thank you to GBAS for the invitation to judge at their show - so friendly and with first class hospitality, exhibitors all appeared to be having great fun, with music and laughter around their rings. My grateful thanks, also, to my 2 very attentive rings stewards and to everyone who made the long trip North.

I was thrilled by the girls that stood in front of me on the day; hair splitting decisions in some classes as always and the MPB and OB, in particular, gave a me a real headache, or was it heartache….such quality. I was looking for sound, elegant ladies and was very pleased with my final line up of beauties. Please watch presentation; particularly the hocks, feet and dirty eyes!

VB (8,1a) 1 & BV Limpus’ Sh Ch Shenanagin She’s The One for Karidell. What a lovely lady she is and never seen her looking better…she glided round the ring on sound, strong limbs with a lashing tail action. Considered her for the RCC and was delighted to watch her take a brilliant RBVIS in the big ring at the end of a long day and she was still really up for it, well done.

2 Mann & Condron’s Covarney Annabelle with Hopstone – Always like this one and although she had left her ball gown behind today she still looked a picture standing as she has excellent confirmation and she moved out well with tail lashing. She has a lovely expression and most adoring eyes.

3 Stevenson’s Lochlorien Prime Suspect for Andley, a wonderful 9 year old….

MPB (18,3) What an array of budding beauty queens; such quality and so hard to cut down to eight, let alone to a final five! 1 BPB & BPIB. Hall’s Riverbrue Ophelia at Glennara. Only 6 months old and “Wow” my notes say, as I really liked everything about her. Most appealing shape when stood and on the move, where she was very confident. Such a pretty face, raised brow, dark eyes, flowed well top to tail, well sprung rib, correct tail set, good bone and neat feet. Still striding out at the end of the day in the big ring too - my little super star today.

2 Crocker & Siddle’s Riverbrue Gloriana. Litter sister and very close up, so many similar wonderful attributes too…very appealing and, again, a confident, well-schooled pup - great action on move.

3 Pike’s Copper’s Forgetmenot, another 6 month old beauty who also demanded my attention.

PB (11,1) 1 Hall’s Riverbrue Ophelia at Glennara,

2 Naylor & Morrison’s Anlory Carignan. Lots to admire, but was giving handler a hard time in final choice by trying to destroy her chances, but only 9 months old! Best of movers and great ring presence, she presents a lovely clean outline. She has a pretty face, well arched neck, excellent forequarters and rib. I loved her for type and shape, smoother coated and in excellent condition

3 Bott, Allen & Morgan’s Quensha Tumble and Twirl.

JB (6,1) 1 Russell’s Melmara Georgia. Have admired from ringside and was delighted to judge her in her last junior class and to award her a well deserved red card. Sweet head and expression and good finish at muzzle, with strong neck and well laid shoulders. She stood over plenty of ground on good limbs and feet, liked her body proportions and driving movement from short hocks.

2 O’Connor’s Romarne Lady Chatterley of Caispern, close up to 1, taller and more substantial, very pretty young lady. Flowing lines and strong, wide quarters, using her tail well on the move

3 Dow’s Shenanagin Stolen Kiss, really liked this girl too

YB (8,3) First two were litter sisters and so much to admire about both. 1 Hunter & Brown’s Braidmount Lady in Waiting. Beautiful make and shape and dark, gleaming coat; pretty face, dark eyes, good back skull, strong moderate neck to well laid shoulders, deep at brisket, gently sloping topline and good over croup.

2 Parson’s Braidmount Lady of the Lake. She is exceptionally pretty, with raised brow and has that “airs and graces” look about her. Also, well up on toes and strode purposefully around the ring. Slightly shorter coupled than 1, close up. Two lovely girls.

3 Stevenson’s Lochlorien True Detective is Andley

NB (8,4) 1 O’Connor’s Romarne Lady Chatterley of Caispern

2 Frampton’s Strathmead Mulberry. Much to admire, therefore such a shame she was so upset in the hall today. Another pretty one, long lean neck, good forequarters, well-conditioned dark coat

3 Whitehead’s Gwendariff Gonna Winsome

GB (12,1) 1 Hall’s Harreds Hettie. Have always liked this girl; she is smallish and compact and what you see it what you get. She has very clean lines, the most endearing expression and desirable raised brow, lovely arch to neck which is well set into shoulders, good return of upper arm, straight front, good feet, well ribbed, sweeping quarters and correct tail set, plus a well-conditioned dark coat. Moved very well

2 Blackshaw’s Lanstara Spring Star. Different type to 1, carrying a flatter coat, and I have always liked her too. Sweetest expression, lovely profile and brow, strong, moderate length neck, straight front, well arched neat feet, well ribbed and good width to quarters. Used her tail well on the move.

3 Wilson’s Copper’s Snowqueen, very neat and pretty lady.

PGB (9,1) 1 Watt’s Shenanagin Scrumptious. Quite taken with this “scrummy” and very elegant girl; most adorable face and the softest, almond shaped eyes, good stop and finish to muzzle, well arched reachy neck, straight front and deep at brisket, with clean flowing lines. Moved with purpose on a loose lead - just needs a little more feathering to complete the picture.

2 Chorley-Newton & Chorley’s Kerryfair Hattie. A new one to me, she made a beautiful shape when she relaxed and then drove soundly around the ring with her young handler. Prettiest face and adoring eyes under raised brow, strong neck, well ribbed up and strong over croup, well set on tail, dark coat.

3 Russell’s Melmara Minervois

LB (11,3) 1 & RCC Gardner’s Thendara Jocasta. I loved this girl as a youngster too and now, fully mature, she is a real beauty. Super, sound bitch to go over, no ugly lumps and bumps, she just flows and looks a picture both stood and on the move, where she held her topline well. Excellent muscle tone, strong, well let down hocks, good feet and pasterns. So much to admire from her pretty face, well defined skull, long, well set on ears, wonderful stance and lashing tail action; she surely must gain her well-deserved title soon.

2 Lochlorien Scully Foxes Andley. A well-constructed and conditioned lady, who always gives her all for her owner.  Slightly longer cast than above, with a very elegant profile, she has a kind and intelligent expression, strong neck and forequarters; she held her topline well on the move and was very sound both coming and going, driving from strong short hocks.

3 Sheldon’s Delsanto Snow Belle, another I have done well before as pup and still admire.

OB (7,3) What a nightmare to have to place these 4 lovely girls, thank you for bringing them. 1 & CC Naylor & Morrison’s Sh Ch Anlory Carinena. Completely filled my eye and I really loved her, just my size and shape; her fluid movement was a pleasure to watch as she drove around the ring at one with owner. She owns a truly beautiful head, well chiselled with melting dark eyes, raised brow, super back skull and clean through neck and shoulders, deep girth and well ribbed back. Also, excellent feet, tail set, muscle tone and a gleaming conditioned coat. Just a little disappointed she did not get BOB; on the referee’s decision it went to the handsome dog, who really looked wonderful in the big BIS line up later in the day.

2 Hunter & Brown’s Sh Ch/Int Ch Fairhaven Louise Mountbatten at Braidmount. This well known beautiful bitch is so well put together and, again, another who really knows how to move out well, with excellent foot fall; she too was in contention for the RCC. Without wanting to repeat the many superlative comments that have been written before, I can only echo them. She has also passed many of her attributes to her daughters who were 1st and 2nd in YB.

3 Parson’s Sh Ch Suteresett Miss Splendid at Bransett.
